Yarn Wrapped Halloween Trees

I LOVE Halloween – after Christmas it is my favorite Holiday to decorate for!

I love making sure there are touches of Halloween in every room – which means finding quick and cute projects to decorate with.
That’s what I’m sharing today - These go together really fast and you can change them up super easily for any colors or decor!

Aren’t they cute?
They have little glitter skeleton heads to top them off – because you just can’t have enough glitter in a display – especially at Halloween.

Ok – here’s what you’ll need to make your own!

  • Styrofoam Cones
  • Yarn in two colors
  • Ribbon for top
  • Skeleton or something else cute to top with
  • Hot glue
  • Ruler & Marking Pen

Start by marking out your strips on your cones. This will help your rows to stay straight as you wrap. The first one is a 12″ cone and I marked it at every inch, three places around the cone.

Begin wrapping at the bottom of the code, adding little bits of hot glue every so often to hold the yarn in place.

Continue wrapping and glueing your yarn – this is so easy it hardly needs a tutorial. :) And it’s perfect for setting up on a little tray and doing while you watch tv.

When you get to the top, wrap the yarn around the top flat portion of the cone to cover everything.
Now – you’ll notice I have some glue that’s showing through the black a bit.

Just color over the glue with a Sharpie that’s close to the color of the yarn! That will make the glue not so noticeable.

Repeat the process for as many cones as you’d like to make! On the smaller one I changed up the stripes a little.
I think they have a kind of Beetlejuice thing going for them -

To finish them off with a little bling, I tied some bows in Damask Ribbon and pinned them to the top of the cones.
Then I glued some little glittered skulls I’d made a few years ago to the top of the ribbon.

The pins make it super easy to change out the toppers next year – if I want to go with hot pink or orange or something!

I’ve grouped them together with my little Target Dollar Bin finds – both the Pumpkin and the Boo came from there!

I hope you like them! They’d be perfect to throw together in an afternoon to dress up a little corner that needs some Halloween Spirit!

A Little Mummy Dishtowel

So if you’ve visited before you know I’m a sucker for cute dishtowels.

I think it makes it easier to do the dishes.
Not that I use these for dishes – but still . . . ;)

And since I haven’t done a Halloween Dishtowel in a while I thought it was time to rectify that!

I whipped up a cute little Mummy Dish towel! Perfect for adding some Halloween fun to your kitchen – or as a hostess gift for all the costume parties you’ll be going to.

Isn’t it cute? It’s really simple too!! It’s just strips of white muslin sewn with a cute little face peeking out!

I think it would be a pretty cute little pillow too.

This is really simple to put together – here’s what you’ll need to make your own!

• 21″ x 28″ piece of fabric for dishtowel – or use purchased dishtowel. I used Osnaburg for mine.
• strips of white fabric cut on the bias (diagonal to the selvage) - about 336″ of 2″ wide strips
• scraps of black fabric for eyes and mouth
• white and black thread
• Wonder Under fusible webbing

Begin by cutting out your eyes and mouth. The eyes on mine are about 1/2″ – but you can make them any size you’d like!
Iron the eyes and mouth to one side of the fusible webbing. Remove the paper backing and iron the face to the lower half of the dishtowel piece.

Machine stitch around the pieces with a small zig zag stitch. (you can also embroider them on if you’d prefer.)

Begin laying on your white fabric strips, starting at the bottom of the dishtowel. (If you are not using a store-bought dishtowel, hem the bottom edge of the towel first.)

Trim the first strip so it’s just slightly larger than the width of the dishtowel. Sew the strip to the dishtowel 1/4″ inside the top edge.

Keep layering and sewing your strips on, working your way up towards the face. Angle the strips a bit so they look like mummy wrappings.

Once you reach the smile, leave that section open in the center and continue sewing on strips until the bottom half of the dishtowel is covered.

Once you have your strips on, trim the extra white fabric on the sides. Hem the two sides and the other short end of the towel.

And that’s all there is to it! You now have a cute little mummy dishtowel to show off!

What do you think?

Spider Glam Halloween Wreath

So in case you missed it, earlier in the week I shared my Witchy Glam Halloween Mantel!

I wanted to share with you a little tutorial on the Spider Glam Halloween Wreath. This wreath is super quick and easy - and it’s full of bling!

It has a sweet little spider and some fancy chains and brooches – something all the coolest Witches are displaying this Halloween!

This really goes together super fast. To make you’re own you’ll need:

  • Grapevine Wreath
  • Black Spray Paint
  • 4 Brooches
  • Assorted lengths of chain
  • Largish Spider
  • Chiffon and Lace strips for flowers
  • Hot glue

Start off by spraying the snot out of your wreath – you want to get it really black. This will take several coats to make sure all the grapevines in the center are covered.
I used glossy so it was nice and shiny – but any black would work.

Create loose fabric flowers. For the Chiffon flowers, cut long strips about 4″ wide. Fold the strip in half long ways and run a gathering stitch along the raw ends. Gather up the strip and then glue the strip onto a small felt circle, swirling the chiffon into layered circles to make a loose flower. Repeat with the lace.

Glue the flowers onto the wreath with the lace flower in the center.

To give the spider a little bling we’re going to do a little spider surgery. Cut a slit in the largest part of the body. (This guy came from the dollar store)

Choose a button with a shank on it and glue the shank into the slit in the spider’s body.
See? I even left glue gun strings there as proof. That was on purpose.

Glue two brooches (or buttons, anything bling-y really) onto the chiffon flowers and glue the spider onto the lace flower.

For the chain portion of the wreath, I wanted to have the option to reuse these brooches later, and that’s hard to do when they’re covered in hot glue.
So I ”pinned” the brooches to the wreath. Just open up the pins and slip them through a few branches, then close them up!
Thread several different lengths of chain through the pins so that they form a little chain swag.

And that’s it!! Super easy right?

I think that chain swag is my favorite part. :)

And here it is on the mantel again!

So I’d love to know – what are you doing for Halloween? Do you change up your decorations every year?
