Top 5 Friday – Musicals

Happy Friday! Is it odd to anyone else that it is July 16 and we are approximately halfway through the year? Umm – I think I’ve skipped some months.

Today’s Top 5 Friday is all about Classic Musicals. Old Fashioned Boy Meets Girl – Boy and Girl sing and dance a lot – Boy and Girl fall in love Happily Ever After. Sigh.

It has nothing to do with crafting or sewing and everything to do with something I love. :)

I’m going from last to first this week so we’ll start with . . .

5. Guys and Dolls

Who knew Marlon Brando could sing? Sort of. ;) And Frank Sinatra – who of course can sing. I love this one. If you haven’t watched Nicely Nicely singing “Rockin the Boat” you must!

4. Anchors Aweigh

Oh Frank again. Young and fresh-faced and adorable – paired with Gene Kelly. A “Sea-Wolf” – who falls in love with Kathryn Grayson.

Here’s the movie trailer to give you a taste . . .

3.  Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

Howard Keel and Jane Powell in the backwoods of Oregon. And 6 brothers to marry off. Here’s a video of the “Barn Dance Scene” – one of the best dancing scenes in a musical. ever. (It’s kinda longish)

2. White Christmas

Do I need to say anything about this one?? It makes me cry every year. Danny Kay is hilarious. Bing Crosby could sing my grocery list and I’d love it. And I could show you the classic iconic scene but I won’t. Check out Bing and Danny dressing up as the girls . . .

1. Singing in the Rain

Gene Kelly. Debby Reynolds. Donald O’Connor. even a cameo by the fairly wonderful Cyd Charisse.  I had a terrible time deciding on the video for this one but I had to give you the scene of all scenes. . . If this doesn’t make you smile I don’t know what will.

And if I haven’t wasted enough of your time on this beautiful Friday – :) – Tell me – what are your favorites? Sound of Music? Oklahoma? Annie get your Gun? I want to know!

Top 5 Friday – Etsy Love

Ack. This is sooo late – family is in town and I’m enjoying them. :) So I’m not going to apologize. I know you guys understand.

I have a quicky announcement too -

I’m moving the Crush of the Week to Saturday. Friday’s feeling really full with Top 5 Friday and the Crush of the Week. So check back tomorrow for one of my favoritest new blogs. (Yes that is a word.)

So I wanted to share a little Etsy Love with you today. These are 5 things I’ve fallen in love with – from my super long list of things I’ve fallen in love with there. Don’t equate that with things I can necessarily afford though haha.

1.  Autumn Kiss from Papercut Art by tinatanoff

Autumn Kiss - Original papercut Art

I love paper art. I’ve done a couple little ones but nothing like this. Can’t you see it in my bedroom? I can. ;)

2. Hiding Gnomie embroidery patterns from alittlesweetness

Hiding Gnomie Embroidery PATTERN

Seriously? How cute is this???  And definitely more in my price range. Her shop has the most darling things.

3. In One Ear and Out the Other Earrings by SuzAndRoo
So True
I have a serious weakness for earrings. Pretty much all types – girly, quirky, whimsical, whatever. I love these – not that I’m suggesting I’m not listening. But I do have teenagers. ;)

4. Bon Voyage Mod Paris Tossed Scooters in Parfait Pink by Timeless Treasures Fabric

Bon Voyage Mod Paris Tossed Scooters in Parfait Pink by Timeless Treasures Fabric - 1 yard

I neeeed this fabric. ;)  Since I can’t have a pink scooter (Hubby says I’ll kill myself – not to mention they’re not exactly practical for carpool) I think I should console myself with some heavenly scooter fabric. I’m thinking either a little clutch or some pajamas. Maybe both.

5. Rennes Lace Necklace from foxandclover

Rennes Lace Necklace

This is glass drawn with the lace design. Isn’t it pretty?? I love how delicate it looks!

So that’s my Top 5 Etsy Loves! Don’t forget to check back tomorrow for the Crush of the Week and if you haven’t been by, check out the July Follower giveaway!

I’m linking up to Annie’s Top 5 Friday!

Top Five Friday

Since I’ve been a slacker and haven’t done a Fourth of July craft (it’s not like there aren’t a million out there – goodness half of them are at Under the Table and Dreaming) - I needed to recognize the holiday some way in my little corner of blogland. Enter Top Five Friday! So here are 5 things to celebrate this weekend.

1. Small Town Celebrations -

I really don’t think anything beats the Fourth of July in small towns. Parades, carnivals, picnics, fireflies. Eating fried chicken and riding a Ferris wheel. Does it ever get old watching your children watch fireworks?

Well – maybe if they’re of the age where the whole thing freaks them out and they scream like banshees. Been there. Done that.

(A bit of randomness for you. When I took this picture I was sitting on some steps in a tiny town in Delaware watching their fireworks and carnival. A little frog hopped up next to me and peed on the step. How weird is that?)

2. The variety of our beautiful country. Whether you live in rural farmland . . .

Or in a major city . . .

There is beauty everywhere. Take some time this weekend to find it.

3. Freedom to worship. I don’t thank God often enough that we have the freedom to worship Him in the biggest church . . .

Or the littlest chapel . . .

Or in our hearts. . .

No matter our age or sex or color. So many people don’t have this choice.

4. Take some time to remember those who have fought for our freedoms.

And pray for those who are leading our country. Whether you agree with them or not.

5. Enjoy it all! Spend time with your family and friends. Barbecue. Go to the beach. Try not to get sunburned. Light some sparklers. Tell your kids about the people who founded this country and why they did it. Eat too much apple pie.

Have a wonderful Fourth of July!
