Fun Fashion Finds For Fall!

Oh my goodness – are you sick of me saying how ready for Fall I am yet? Yes?

So sorry. I would like to consider this Fall – it is September for goodness sake, but it’s really still too warm for chili and sweaters and boots (I can’t find) and scarves.

So until it cools down a little – I have to pretend – and I’m going to do a little online shopping to keep us in the mood.
I’m sharing my wish list and awesome finds with you!

I’m a giver like that.

So let’s go browsing!

(Do I get points for using five “F’s” in the title? I’m a sucker for alliterations)

Ok – let’s start off with Coats and Jackets – and I’m pretty sure that all of these need to be in my wardrobe right now.
That yellow peacoat is killing me!

Slouchy Summer Bag Now with Pattern!!

So about a month ago I posted this super cute Slouchy Summer Hobo Bag.

I just adore this bag. It’s big. and slouchy. And you can pile all kinds of awesomeness in there.
Like fabric swatches and craft supply lists and lipstick and maybe even your wallet.

When I wrote the tutorial though – I didn’t include a pattern. Cause it’s basically just a big scoop of fabric all sewn together with a zipper.

But then the more I thought about it, I figured it might be easier if you had a pattern to start with, then you can play with the size if you want!

So I’ve updated the post with the Free Pattern – and you can download it here too if you want! Yay!

(As with all Flamingo Toes Patterns, this is for personal use only. Please do not sell or redistribute the pattern in any way. Thanks!!)

I hope you enjoy the pattern and I’d love to see any bags you make! :)

Summer Sandal Refashion

Most of you know – I’m lucky enough to live in Southern California. So we wear sandals pretty much year round.
And I am always looking for ways to dress them up and change things up!

I have a fun Summer Sandal Refashion for you today – and the cool thing about it is that the pretty little flower decorations are removable!

So you can wear your cute sandals with or without it!

I sort of maybe have a shoe thing. And one of my favorite brands is Poetic Licence. They have a darling little sandal that was the inspiration for these -

Isn’t it cute?? I love the little flowers – but I didn’t want them to be a permanent addition to my new pink sandals – so I made a little linen wrap for mine!

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

Linen pieces (enough to wrap around your sandals)
interfacing
fabric, felt, lace, ribbon – whatever you want to make your flowers out of
Sandals
Velcro

I started with these sandals from Target. Cute right?

To start, measure the length of the piece across the top of your foot – to see how long and wide you’ll need your linen covers to be.
Cut linen pieces ( a total of 4) big enough to wrap around this section and fold over in the back. You’ll also want to add at least a 1/4″ seam allowance.

Iron on a piece of fusible interfacing to 2 of the pieces.

Sew your pieces right sides together so you have two wraps – make sure you leave an opening for turning right side out.
Clip your corners and turn right side out. Press.

Wrap the pieces around your sandals to check your velcro placement.  Sew thin strips of velcro to the linen covers – placing the velcro so that when the cover is wrapped around the sandal the velcro pieces meet in the back.

Now it’s time for the fun part! The flower making.

You can do this anyway you’d like, but here’s how I made mine.

I started with the puffy little flower. To make that, cut 5 small circles out of fabric. For my pattern I traced the top of a large spool of thread.
Sew around the edge with little gathering stitches. (kind of like if you were making a yo-yo)

Pull up the stitches just a bit to start to form a ball. Add a wee tiny bit of stuffing inside.

Pull the stitches tight and then sew along the bottom edge to hold everything in place.

Repeat for the other four circles, then sew them together in a flower shape.

With some ribbon, create a little rolled flower center and glue that in the center of your puffy flower.
(If you need instructions on rolled flowers, click here.)

You can create some flowers with ribbon too – cut small strips of ribbon and fold them in half. Sew gathering stitches along the ends.

Pull up your threads until the ribbon is all gathered, then sew the last ribbon to the first one.

Create a couple more ribbon flowers and added rolled ribbon flowers to the centers to finish them off.

Cut a couple pieces of lace and some green felt leaves as little extras.

Now you can start layering your flowers and leaves and lace on. Glue all these on with hot glue – or sew them if you’d like.
It will help with placement to put the linen wrap on your sandal and then glue the pieces on.

Repeat for the other wrap, making it a mirror image of the first one.

Wrap them around your cute sandals and you’re good to go!

I hope you like them!
