About Me

Hey! Thanks for stopping by Flamingo Toes!

glasses2

My name is Beverly – but Bev is fine too. :)
Nice to meet ya.

I hope you’ll have fun looking around and checking out everything – my goal with this blog is for it to be a FUN place.
I’d love it if you find projects you like, posts you think are funny, whatever – and I hope you leave happier then when you got here.
Hokey? Yeah. But true.

I get some questions pretty regularly – so I thought I’d answer them here!

What’s with the name Flamingo Toes?

Coming up with a blog name is a tricky thing. Especially since I didn’t want to be pinpointed to just one thing. I kind of have crafting ADD.
I love to sew. And do embroidery – and make things for my house.
And I wanted to use this blog as a place to post about new things I’ve learned – from you!
So I chose a name that was generic. And fun.
Yes. I like flamingos. They’re pretty fun and kind of quirky. I hope like this blog.
No. I don’t have them all over my house or yard. Balance in all things. :)

What do you do when you’re not blogging?

Let’s see. When would that be?
Just kidding. When I’m not blogging, I am a graphic/website designer. I work from home, which is pretty awesome, so I have a great, flexible schedule.
I’m also a wife and mom – to this crazy crew. They keep things pretty busy around here.

If I’m not doing all that – I’m sort of trying to keep the house clean (not so successful there) or reading, listening to 80′s music, or watching old movies
And sometimes I’m trying to do all of those at once.

Some other random stuff about me. . . .

I’m a bit of a klutz. Ok – you long time readers know that’s a bit of an understatement.

I can make balloon animals. Do you have any skills that you look back on and think, “Why do i know this?” Yeah. me too.

I live next to the ocean but I don’t go in the water.

I’m really shy and I spend a ton of time in “social” media.

Anything else you want to know?

    Hi Bev
WhooHoo, I just finished your/my Hobo Bag .. It did take me 4 hours, but because it was to be a gym bag I interefaced front and lining with shirttail fusible interfacing, I used quilters 100% cotton I double stitched and finished all my seams and I made a zippered pouch attached to the lining Thanks for posting the template and picture instructions, I’m passing your site on to my sewing friends here at home and online

Hi, just wanted to drop a message to say I adore your website. I only recently found it & I’m hooked! I had been looking for inspiration for some homemade gifts for my family (I like to start early) but couldn’t think of anything until I found flamingo toes. I can’t wait to make circus animal necklaces, that is one of the most fun ideas for jewellery I’ve seen in a long time. I live in England & we don’t have a lot of the shops you meantion but a hobbycraft super store has opened up near me & I now have the perfect excuse to spend hours in there so I can make some of the amazing things I’ve seen here. I’m currently trying to convince my boyfriend to help me make a thread spool table, I want one so badly! Keep up the amazing work & the fantastic ideas :)

I stumbled upon a guest post you did on TaraDaraMadeIt; Tips – What I Wished I Knew When I Started Blogging. (Pinterest)
I started a sewing blog a couple months ago & I felt like you were taking about me. Obsessively checking my traffic, subscriptions, wondering if my projects just suck…

This is such a rewarding hobby, but I get discouraged when I compare my blog to “big blogs.” Thanks for the reminder that I just want to make things. If someone likes them that’s great. But we blog mostly for ourselves right? I’m going to focus on better quality photos, better tutorials, and better content.

I also love your trifold board for photos. I’ll pick one up ASAP! You have a new subscriber!

So…I’m reading your blog and I think…wow! The verbage (my mother, the English teacher would be so proud to see me use big words!) sounds just like me! I’ve been told, I write like I speak and, I’m the funniest person I know! I can relate to your “ooo-ing and ahhh-ing” in Anthropology. Recently, I purchased a little purse for $28 (not available on the website…bummer) just so I could copy it to make for girlie friends.

YOU! are far more daring and creative than me. I spent years at my machine making little dresses for my girls (23 and 25 now) then moving into quilting (specializing in oodles of pieces in Mariners Compass patterns), custom drapes etc until I burnt out! I’m back! Purses (types) have caught my eye which is what brought me to YOU! The discovery of Pinterest…the devil in disguise (LOL!) is where I found YOU!

I look forward to following you and listening to my own words…see my opener!

    Happy holidays and happy sewing!

    L.

    Dear Bev,
This Anthro necklace is great. I so loved it that I wanted to do it as a class project for an adult community center.
Would you mind if I used the picture of the necklace that you did to help promote my program? If you could get back to me, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks and keep on creating!
    Regards,
    Dorri

I love your site! It is really well put together. I found the idea of the Master Pinterest List on Pinterest Imagine that! I just started a DIY Interactive Blog. However I am using wordpress.org and know nothing about html or putting buttons on. So I am very proud of my Blog pinterest account and want to join the list. However, what is the pinterest sidebar thing that I am supposed to have.? (I have pinterest buttons)

I discovered your site almost two months ago and check in every day. I have shared with new friends at the fabric store whom I have met the second time and they are amazed with your ideas and your sharing other sites and share with friends..

I have been trying to find the linen jewelery travel case but it cannot find it. With two friends beading and making jewelery they love it. It was going to be my winter project and I’m sure I’ll be able to figure out what to do.

    Love the site

    Hi Bev,
I love your blog. It’s great. I have a question. I am making your Linen Travel Jewelry Bag, and I would like the measurements on the inner circle. It says 15, but if the outer one is 18 there wouldn’t be enough room to sew a 1 3/4 inch seam. There is only a 1 1/2 inch clearance on each side. I know it is probably just me. I have a hard time with patterns sometimes, but can you please advise. I love this little bag and would like to make it.
