About Me -

Hey! Thanks for stopping by Flamingo Toes!

glasses2

My name is Beverly – but Bev is fine too. :)
Nice to meet ya.

I hope you’ll have fun looking around and checking out everything – my goal with this blog is for it to be a FUN place.
I’d love it if you find projects you like, posts you think are funny, whatever – and I hope you leave happier then when you got here.
Hokey? Yeah. But true.

Here’s a little bit about me:

I grew up in a creative family of artists and seamstresses so it is no surprise that I love to create. I began sewing as a teenager and made my own clothes and room décor even then. That love for DIY, crafting, and sewing has grown to include jewelry making, furniture refinishing and anything else I can learn. My style could probably be described best as a mix between modern and vintage – I love taking old styles and making them new and fun again. I am currently living in gorgeous Carlsbad, CA with my husband, two teenagers, and two cats, which are often more trouble than the two teenagers.

I get some questions pretty regularly – so I thought I’d answer them here!

What’s with the name Flamingo Toes?

Coming up with a blog name is a tricky thing. Especially since I didn’t want to be pinpointed to just one thing. I kind of have crafting ADD.
I love to sew. And do embroidery – and make things for my house.
And I wanted to use this blog as a place to post about new things I’ve learned – from you!
So I chose a name that was generic. And fun.
Yes. I like flamingos. They’re pretty fun and kind of quirky. I hope like this blog.
No. I don’t have them all over my house or yard. Balance in all things. :)

What do you do when you’re not blogging?

Let’s see. When would that be?
Just kidding. Up until about a year ago I worked as a graphic and website designer. Now I’m lucky enough to be able to blog full time and I love every minute of it!
I’m also a wife and mom – to this crazy crew. They keep things pretty busy around here.

If I’m not doing all that – I’m sort of trying to keep the house clean (not so successful there) or reading, listening to 80′s music, or watching old movies
And sometimes I’m trying to do all of those at once.

Some other random stuff about me. . . .

I’m a bit of a klutz. Ok – you long time readers know that’s a bit of an understatement.

I can make balloon animals. Do you have any skills that you look back on and think, “Why do i know this?” Yeah. me too.

I live next to the ocean but I don’t go in the water.

I’m really shy and I spend a ton of time in “social” media.

Anything else you want to know?

I’d love to know what you think of the blog!

I just stumbled on your blog…..I love flamingos and have collected pink flamingo ornaments for about 8 years and have a small Christmas tree that I use just for my flamingos. It was just recently that I realized why I love flamingos…pink is my color, but if you notice a flamingo stands with one leg bent as if it is favoring their good foot…that has been me for years…and recently learned I needed foot surgery to correct stretched strained ligaments….so when I saw the name of your blog, I had to laugh…I have a flamingo pink cast on my right foot and calf with my toe nails painted bright flamingo pink….with a hint of glitter for glam effect…..The name of the polish is flamingo…I commented just yesterday that I now have “flamingo toes” …so funny to find this blog today….

I am a DIY crafter, but have never been organized with them to create how to blogs, but have lately thought it would be a nice way to appreciate my own projects by sharing ideas with others…these blogs give me lots of inspiration and ideas…I also like taking ordinary things found and giving new life to them….the Thanksgiving ideas are nice…I own a decorative bird cage much like yours and now I have a new way to use it…thanks for that idea…the personalized napkins is something I will do ..maybe next year….I will have the cast on for two weeks, so not much going on this year…dinner at my son and DIL’s this year

    Hey,Bev!
Just kinda “stumbled” upon your blog/webpage! You are a girl after my own heart!! Being from the South(TN,SC,NC & GA), being “crafty” is second nature!! I have physical limitations now,but I still like to do things with my mind and my hands.
one of my current pass-times is collecting and trying new & simple recipes. Thank goodness my sweetheart is adventurous when i comes to trying new dishes! (I know, usually, what things he,or I, do NOT like and so I try to pick recipes that have palet-friendy ingredients,or ones that I can “tweek” with my own touches to satisfy).
Also, creating new things from old is a passion for both Mike and myself! Can’t wait to see your ideas,& tips!!
Hope this finds you & yours, well and happy on this Jan. Sunday! (Your kids sound great, and are a “handsome” group – mine are grown with families of their own, now…).
Awaiting your insights and tips for future projects,in the kitchen & elsewhere! :)

I also learned to sew as a teen and watched my mother sew and crochet. I enjoy all crafts and have done a bit of everything. You can see that is very true by looking at my craft room which is stocked with supplies to enjoy when I feel like sewing, crafting, painting, etc. I have been looking at patterns for my jewelry projects and when I choose one, most every time it takes me to Flamingo Toes! I was thinking I should share that with you because we definitely like many of the same things. Thanks for sharing you talent with us. I have enjoyed your website.
