Gingerbread (crafts – not cookies) is one of my favorite parts of the holidays so I just had a blast making this sweet gingerbread embroidery hoop art to share with you today!
It’s decorated all up with a cute little gingerbread man and a little Christmas tree. And of course pom pom trim around the hoop – which is my favorite way to finish off a hoop art.
Here’s the easy tutorial to make your own sweet gingerbread embroidery hoop art!
- 6″ embroidery hoop
- 8″ square of white fabric
- brown, red, green and blue felt (wool felt works great)
- DMC embroidery floss – black, white, and red
- mini red ricrac
- Lite fusible webbing
- red plaid ribbon
- tiny safety eyes
- small buttons for decorations
- red pom pom trim
- disappearing marking pen
- Gingerbread Hoop Pattern
Cut out your felt pieces a little larger than the pattern pieces. Iron fusible webbing on the back of the felt, but use a pressing cloth so you’re not ironing directly onto the felt. Cut out all your felt pieces and iron them in place on the fabric. When you’re pressing the arms and legs in place, tuck the ricrac in around the felt, then iron them down.
Trace the smile, eyes and lettering in place with the disappearing ink marker.
Stitch the lettering with a back stitch and outline all the felt pieces with a running stitch. If you need help with the stitching, check out my Embroidery Tips page. :) Outline the heart with a back stitch and fill in the heart with a satin stitch.
Put the safety eyes in place by cutting a small hole in the gingerbread man and through the fabric behind. Push the eye through the hole and put the safety backs in place.
Now your gingerbread looks all cute and happy!
Make a little bow in your gingham ribbon and glue or sew it in place on the gingerbread man. Sew little buttons in place on the front of the gingerbread man and a little button on top of the tree for the star.
Finish off the back of your hoop and glue your pom pom trim on the edge. Here’s a handy tutorial on finishing the back of embroidery hoops.
All done! Now you can show off your cute new hoop or give it as a gift!
I think this would be a fun hostess gift too! What do you think?
