Alice in Wonderland has always been one of my favorite stories. We even named our new Shepherd puppy Alice! So when I saw the fabulous fabric Wonderland from Melissa at The Polkadot Chair, I knew it would be perfect for so many projects!
Last week I made the Spring Wonderland Pillow, but I just couldn’t resist making up an Embroidery Hoop Set as well!
The main hoop is embroidered with one of my favorite Alice in Wonderland phrases – “We’re all Mad Here”. It has a sweet Alice too!
The little hoop is a clock! It has a bunny from the Wonderland line – I thought it made the perfect White Rabbit clock hoop!
And the two hoops are connected with a little pocket watch chain! So fun right?!
I used a sketchy free motion outline on the Alice hoop, but you can use regular embroidery stitches too.
Here’s what you’ll need to make a set:
- 8″ & 4″ embroidery hoop
- 10″ white fabric
- DMC Pearl Cotton Ball – size 5, Black
- 12″ gold chain
- white and pink pom poms
- blue and white trim – 8″
- Fusible webbing
- Disappearing ink pen
- Wonderland Fabrics – 4 prints, including large bunny fabric and small bunny print
- Wonderland Hoop Set Pattern
Begin by cutting out your fabric pieces. Iron them to fusible webbing. Using the layout, iron the scallop flowers, the skirt, the tights and the shoes on the white fabric.
Using dark gray thread, outline the skirt and stitch the “folds” of the skirt. Use free motion stitching and go over the stitching lines three times. Use the dark gray for the floral scallop as well.
Switch to a light gray fabric and stitch the tights.
Iron the apron in place over the skirt, but tuck in the edging trim under the apron first. The fusible webbing will hold it in place. If you can’t find this braided trim, a lace or rick rack would be super cute too!
Cut out a little bunny and fuse it in place in the corner of the skirt. Stitch the skirt in place with the light gray thread.
Trace the writing onto the white fabric and stitch the letters with a backstitch. Using the lettering as a guide, add extra stitching to thicken the darker sections of the font. Stitch the top strap of the little shoes at the same time.
Place the rabbit fabric in the 4″ hoop so the crown will sit where the 12 o’clock would be. (If you aren’t using the Wonderland fabric, I have a 12 on the pattern so you can stitch it if you need to.) Trace the numbers onto the fabric and stitch them in place as you did the other hoop.
Trim the fabrics on the back of the hoops and glue them to the back side of the hoop. Glue pom pom trim on the back of each of the hoops. Connect the hoops with the gold chain – if the links of the chain don’t open, connect the chain to the hoops with a big gold jump ring.
