We are in Back to School mode around here!! There is so much to do to get our college student ready for her dorm room. (And her mom ready to actually send her off. shhhh.)
I’ve been making a few things for the girl’s room – the latest is this fun little diy fabric covered corkboard! It’s so colorful and it’s perfect for showing off photos, notes – maybe even homework reminders. Maybe. It’s dressed up with a bit of bling too – I made rhinestone thumbtacks to hold everything in place! So fun.
I love the little pop of color in the flower and some of the rhinestones as well – they are so cute.
This is a super fast diy too – you can make one up in about a half hour!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Canvas style corkboard
- Fabric for covering the board
- Hot Glue
- Flat Thumbtacks
- Floral decoration
- Rhinestone Stickers (from The Big Bling set at Joann.com)
Begin by cutting a piece of fabric larger than the corkboard. You want enough to cover the top, sides, and a little on the back.
Glue the fabric to the back of the corkboard, making sure it’s pulled tightly across the board. Trim off the excess, and leave a little section unglued where the hanging holes on the back are.
Fold the corners tightly and glue in place. Trim in extra fabric.
Now you have a cute little fabric covered corkboard!
Let’s dress it up a little hmm?
I added this fun rhinestone decorated flower in the bottom corner – I love the color it adds.
In each of the other corners, add some little rhinestone stickers. If you need to, you can add just a bit of hot glue to the back of the stickers help them adhere to the fabric.
Now you have a sweet rhinestone decorated board.
To make the coordinating thumbtacks, glue the rhinestone stickers to the tops of the flat tacks. They are sticky, but you’ll want them to be held on the tacks well since you’ll be taking them on and off the board.
And that’s it! So easy right?
I think it will look so cute on her wall! It would be a great decoration over a desk as well don’t you think?

What an adorable idea! Cork boards can get icky-looking as the cork starts to crumble from use, so the fabric isn’t just pretty, it also helps hide (or possibly prevent) the ickiness!
I love the flower and the rhinestone tacks.: ) I’ve never seen large-sized rhinestone stickers before; in fact, I’ve never seen canvas-style cork boards before, either, so this has been an eye-opening tutorial for me! Thanks for sharing, Bev. xoxo
