This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of FrogTape brand painter’s tape for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
I have a fun new piece of artwork to show off today! It's this pretty Chevron & Floral Mirror Art!
I've been wanting to do a new version of my Anthro Knockoff Mirror for some time now and doing a little smaller version seemed like a great idea. This cool chevron wooden plaque made the perfect backing.
I used some new FrogTape painter’s tape to create the chevrons and a pretty vintage sheet for the mirror frame and backing.
I love how it turned out and the project was super reasonable for materials too – just a little cheapy mirror, some wood, paint and fabric – and bam. Cute new mirror artwork. Ready for a tutorial? Here's your materials list:
- Four 16" pieces of 1" x 4" wood, wood glue
- 10" square mirror (or something close to that)
- Two colors of paint for the chevron
- FrogTape®
- vintage sheet or fabric for mirror frame and backing
- Mod Podge
- Glue
Begin by gluing together your wood pieces. Just add some wood glue between each piece and clamp together for 24 hours. I recommend doing this over an old box or some paper so if the glue drips you aren't gluing your design or clamps to the concrete. Not that I have any experience with that or anything.
While your wood background is drying, you can start working on your mirror. This is a cheap little mirror I picked up at the hardware store, but you can find these little guys lots of places. Take off any backing on the mirror and if possible, remove your mirror from the frame. Mine wouldn't come out so I had to work with it as it was.
For detailed instructions on how to remove the backing, you can check out the original Anthro Mirror post, but basically you'll want to spray a few spots near the edge of the mirror with Oven Cleaner. PLEASE WEAR GLOVES for this. The Oven cleaner is quite rough on your hands and who knows what's in mirror backing.
Leave the oven cleaner on for enough time for it to eat away the mirror backing. This amount of time is different for every mirror. Just keep checking and when it's removed enough, wipe it off and clean the mirror. You will now have a few spots that you can see through around the edges.
Add fabric to the frame of the mirror with Mod Podge.
Cut out some of the bolder color sections of your fabric (in this case the dark roses) and Mod Podge them to the back of the mirror so the flowers show through the clear spots.
There now, isn't this looking fun so far? I love the blue of that vintage sheet! Once your wood glue is all dry, paint your wood background your base color. In this case, white.
Now use your FrogTape® to tape off your chevron pattern. I measured out and did a one inch chevron, then used the FrogTape® as my spacer in between, then another 1" chevron, until the entire board was covered. You can easily measure out and do any pattern you'd like though. Even simple stripes would look great with this!
The FrogTape® works great because it has paint block technology, which is a fancy way of saying that it works great for keeping paint from seeping under the tape. I really liked how easy the tape was to use and create any design I wanted!
Once your design is all taped out, paint on the contrasting color.
Remove the tape and admire your awesome new chevron lines.
When your background is completely dry, sand the edges and top of the board lightly to give it a distressed look.
Glue your fabric covered mirror in the center of the wooden piece to finish off your new artwork!
I love that gray and blue combination! I think it would be really sweet with any colors though – I might need to make up a few more of these for gifts this year!
I hope you like it! If you want to check out more fun paint projects, you can follow FrogTape® on Twitter at @FrogTape!

Beautiful! I’ve never used mod podge before and there are so many different kinds. Which kind did you use for this project?

Thanks Molly!
I just used the regular Mod Podge in a matte finish. Though glossy would work just as well! :)
