Southwest Stitched Metal Bracelet

Stitched Metal Bracelet

I have such a fun new bracelet for you today! It’s my new Southwest Stitched Metal Bracelet!

I came across these metal cuffs with holes punched in them at Michaels and I fell in love! There are so many fabulous possibilities with these!
You could do stitching like I did – or beads – or cool wire wrapping – I can’t wait to make more!
(Um yes. I bought several.) :)

So for the first one, I thought it would be cute to do a Southwest, Aztec-y look with embroidery thread and a leather binding!

Aztec Bracelet

This bracelet is super east to do too! Just a little sewing and gluing!

Bracelet with Stitching

Ready to start?

You’ll need:

  • 1 Metal Cuff with holes (I found mine at Michael’s – but I’ve seen them online too)
  • Embroidery Floss
  • Leather bias tape (I picked mine up at Joann’s)
  • Glue
  • Felt for backing

Here’s the Metal Cuff I used. You can see it’s already pre-drilled with little holes.

Punched Metal Bracelet

Start by drawing out your stitching plan and colors.
I started with a star shape in Orange thread in the center.

I also wanted the two arrow shapes at the ends to be orange too.

If you’re using the same design, add a navy diamond around the orange center.

Finish out the stitching with yellow and turquoise thread.

Sewing a Bracelet

Trim the edge of the cuff with leather bias tape. Lightly glue the front side and then glue the back on. Start the binding towards the back so the overlap doesn’t show right in front.

Leather Binding

Fold the edges around the ends of the cuff, making a little pleat in the tape.
When you get back to the starting point, cut the tape and fold the end over just a bit and glue down, so it overlaps the starting point just a bit.

Leather Edging on Bracelet

Cut a piece of felt a little smaller than your cuff and glue it inside the cuff. This will cover up all your stitching and make everything look nice. :)

All Finished!

Isn’t it fun?

I love the way the stitching looks with the leather.
