One of my goals this year is to share a little more about us as a family with you – I feel like it makes things a little more personal – so you can get to know the “me” behind the blog.
Things we do, activities, background, you know – life!
One of the things that is important to us as a family is attending and serving at our church.
It’s been a huge part of our family since Doug and I were kids – we even met in our high school church youth group! (Everybody say awwwww) :)
We had always been involved at church but when our kids were little we knew we wanted to be involved with them – and be involved with where they were.
So we dived in and started serving with the Children’s Ministry at our church!
At the time we were going to a pretty small church – so what started as a chance to spend time with our kids at church, turned into a great way to get to know these kids. We have been able to watch them grow up and to be a part of their families. We got so much out of teaching sunday school and the outside church activities too!
Silly kids.
I feel like I got so much more back from serving in Children’s Ministry – it has been a huge part of my life.
It’s a love we apparently passed on to our kids too!
Since they’ve gotten older Jake and Becka have also helped out at various events – our church’s weekly Summer program and other events. Becka has been helping out on Sunday mornings with the pre-K class for the last 4 years. I’m so proud of her dedication to that class and the kids!
(My pretty girl. I need to get a photo of her in her class at church!)
So I guess my whole point is to share a little bit about what’s important to us. And to encourage you too – that finding a place to give back and spend time helping others out is so rewarding – and I can promise that when you give back, you’ll receive so much more! It doesn’t have to be at church of course – there are so many opportunities to serve out there.
I’d love to hear about ways that you give back and help out too!

Thanks for sharing! I too have been involved with the children’s ministry at our church, and have moved up as my kids have gotten older. Now I’m in the middle of a three year stint teaching with a group in Club 56 (5 th and 6 th graders) and it is crazy, exhausting, and fun…except maybe on the days when all 28 show up :)

Awww! What a great way to give back, Bev! We like to give through our local animal shelters as well as local charities.
