Ok girlies – I am so excited today!! One of my friends has come over to hang out!
You guys know by now that I love Roo from Nice Girl Notes. She’s cute, she has great hair, she draws like a fiend and her blog is so funny that it makes me snort.
Give her a nice big Flamingo Toes Welcome!!! ;)

Hi! I’m Roo from NiceGirlNotes, and I’m so excited to be all up in Bev’s hood today. Flamingo Toes is one of the first blogs I came across when I started blogging back in August, and quickly became one of my favorite places to hang out. I loved Bev. She loved me. We’re buds. :) She’s craftier than I am (both meanings apply, I think).
I can’t sew. I don’t make jewelry. I hack my way through crafts, but I wanted to attempt one for Bev, so here’s the world’s easiest tutorial.
I was walking through the fluorescent-lit aisles of JoAnn Fabrics, when I spotted this little cutie in the clearance aisle.
I’m a sucker for all things ‘basket-y,’ so I paid for it, and it became mine. Hi, Basket. ♥
But then – and have you ever had this problem? – I started putting things on it. And baskets are bumpy and have all sorts of crazy, haphazard grooves. The slightest nudge, and this happens.
Dang it. *picks candle back up*
Aw, come on! So, yes. A dilemma. I can either resign all of the baskets in my house to hold only toys and blankets, or I can get a little craft-hacky.
I roughly measured the inside of the basket, and cut a sturdy piece of cardboard to fit. The cardboard was cut from the back piece of an old drawing pad.
Then I took a pretty piece of fabric I had, and wrapped it around the cardboard. No gluing. No sewing. No stapling. Told ya I was hacky. *cough* Ahem… But look at the end result!
But now this basket is cute AND functional! Wouldn’t it be so nice on your dresser – the perfect little spot for some everyday jewelry?
Or a cheery greeting for some overnight guests with a couple of washcloths and toiletries?
Or as a ready servant first thing in the morning, holding my notebook and to-do lists, a mason jar of pens, and a mug waiting to be filled with tea? Aw, Little Basket. You’ve served me well.
So how easy is that? The next time you need a basket to hold things upright, just: 1) cut a piece of cardboard to fit, 2) wrap it in a cute piece of fabric, and 3) hmm.. I guess there’s only two steps. :)
Bev, thanks for letting me hang out! :D
If you’d like to check out some more “crafts” I’ve done (and I use that term quite loosely), you can see my tutorials here. If you want to get a feel for what my website is about, check out the “Best Of” posts here. Aside from crafty hacks, I write about awkward moments as a teenager, life with my husband and two toddlers, growing up with a fresh-off-the-boat Filipino mother, and day-to-day experiences. I’d love for you to come hang out!

I love all things basket as well. I think my hubby thought our house was going to be taken over by baskets…but they are so functional and even more functional with this super fab idea. Thanks Roo!

I actually just yesterday found Roos’ blog before reading this post and immediately added it to my reader. Love your style, lass! :)
I am the same type of crafter… the less effort it takes, the better. As long as the idea is genius, let’s sell it as craft! You can totally pull it off, girl.

What a ridiculously easy tip – why didn’t I think of this? Heading over to Roo’s right now.
Thanks for hosting a great guest!

I never thought of that? I’ve put in a cloth many times but never thought of making it stable with cardboard. Ingenious!!! Thanks for sharing Roo!
