Anthro Necklace Week Day 1 – Pernilla Necklace

Yay!! It’s time for Anthro Necklace Week! :)

Today we’re starting off with the Pernilla Necklace. This little cutey runs an impressive $198!
It is so classic and pretty – and it can made with such a variety of materials.
I just love this one.

Ready to make your version?

You’ll need:

Decorative Chain – 14″
Thinner chain – 3″
Pearls – enough for 6 1/4″ (I used 1/4″ pink pearls)
Large Beads for bottom row – enough for 10″ (beads were 5/8″ long)
Small silver beads for spacers (enough for between the large beads)
Larger silver beads for left side (I used 16)
Shell or flat beads for right side (I used 22)
16 Head pins, 27 jump rings, 1 eye pin & 4 crimp beads
Lobster clasp (or some other closure)
Bead cording

Start by cutting a 14″ piece of your cording.
Feed the cord through a crimp bead and then loop the cord through a jump ring. Feed the cord back through the crimp bead so it is looped around the jump ring.

Crimp the bead around the cording with flat nosed pliers.

Begin stringing the large white beads onto the cording. Make sure that the beads cover the short end of the cording too.
After you add a large bead, add on a small silver spacer bead.

Continue alternating white and silver beads until your strand is about 9 1/2″.

Feed the loose end of the cording through another crimp bead. Feed it through a jump ring and loop back into the crimp bead, just like you did on the other end.
Crimp the bead closed and feed the short end through the first few beads to cover it.

Cut another piece of cording 9″ long. Add the cording with another crimp bead to one of the jump rings on your white strand.

Feed your pearls onto the cording until the strand measures 6 1/2″.
Finish the other end of the strand with a crimp bead on the other jump ring of the white bead strand.

Add a larger silver bead to a head pin. (A head pin is a small piece of wire with a flat side on one end, to hold a bead on)

Hold the head pin with round nosed pliers, a little space above the bead. Wrap the wire around one side of the round nosed pliers to make a loop.

Trim the long end of the wire off at the top of the bead with wire cutters. Make sure you point the cutters away from your face. Flying wire is no fun.

Now you have a cute little silver bead on a loop.

Add this little loop to one end of your thinner chain. (Always open your jump rings and loops diagonally, don’t pull them apart.)
You don’t need to trim your chain yet. It is easier to add your beads and then cut the chain later so you aren’t working with a tiny piece of chain. That’s also no fun. And we’re all about fun. :)

 Continue making beads and adding them to the chain. I have about 1″ of chain and 16 beads looped in there)
(I’m thoroughly embarrassed by all the little marks on my white board. If you love me pretend those aren’t there. ;)

Open up the left jump ring of the white and pearl strands and add the bottom loop of the chain to that jump ring. Close the ring.

Add a large white bead to an eye pin. This is a piece of wire with a loop on the end.

Make a loop on the other end of the bead like you did with your silver beads.

Open up one loop and add this to the loop of chain that has the top silver bead.

Cut the chain in the loop above the link where you added the white bead.

Here’s where you should be now.

With your thinner chain again, add a jump ring to the bottom link. Add a shell piece (you want a bead/shell with only one hole on one end) to the jump ring. Close the ring.

Continue adding shells and rings to the chain. I used 22 shell pieces over 1 1/2″ of chain.

Add your right side jump ring of the bead strands to the bottom link of the chain under the shells.

Cut your bigger chain into two pieces, 7″ long each.
Open up one end of the chain and add to the top link of the chain that the shells are on.
(If your chain is not made of links that open, connect the two chains with a jump ring.)

Repeat with the other 7″ chain on the other side of the necklace, adding it to the side with the silver beads.

On the left side, add a large jump ring to the open end of the chain.

On the right piece of chain, add a jump ring to the open end, and add a lobster clasp also. Close the jump ring.

Now you’re all done!!!

You have a pretty, classic, knockoff necklace for significantly less than $198! :)
