2010 Top 10!

I have discovered in looking through posts from the last year that I use LOTS of exclamation points in my post titles. Like almost all of them.  Thanks for not pointing that out and mocking. :)

In trying to decide how to do my 2010 review post, I waffled a bit. I have been blogging in this Flamingo corner of the web since April – so I don’t have a post for every month. And I could just about paralyze myself with trying to choose my favorite. (Ask me to choose my least favorites though and I’d have a post up for you in a jiffy. Yikes. )

So I decided to go with your favorite 10 posts. Here are the top 10 posts based on traffic/visits:
(If you’ve missed any of these, just click on the photo or title to check out the tutorial.)

#10 – Lace and Pearl Necklace

Published July 8

This was actually my first Necklace Tutorial on the blog – and it’s still one of my favorites – so light and fun to wear. I got an email last week from a lovely reader who made this necklace as her bridesmaid gifts. I have yet to get her picture on the “You’ve Made It” page. I’ve been a slacker.

#9 – Colorful Retro Christmas Dishtowels

Published November 14

These ruffly dishtowels were so cute – and were so fun to make!!

#8 – End of Summer Wristlet

Published August 18

This little wristlet was my first pattern. I’ve made several since then and I love the small size and the wrap around zipper.

#7 – Lace and Pearl Bracelet

Published June 24

I love this bracelet – I wear it all the time! It was made on my Summer Road Trip – that fun green background in all the shots was my son’s pillow. :)
This was also my first guest post/tutorial – with Kim over at Seven Thirty Three - who was sweet enough to include me in her Creativity Week.

#6 – Anthro Paisley Rebirth Necklace

Published September 1

This is our first necklace from Anthro Necklace Week in the countdown. And I’ve made a ton of them – I’m sure by now you’re saying – “Stop already”.

#5 – Bowl of Eyeballs

Published September 28

I had no idea when I made these that they would be so popular – I was just thinking they were a cute – not too spooky – and easy craft for Halloween.
But you liked them too – and then wonder of wonders, the fabulous Beth Engleman from Mommy on a Shoestring made them on TV and I felt like I’d won the Oscar. Or some crafting equivalent that would probably include more paper mache. If you missed the tv segment you can watch it here.

#4 – Thanksgiving Chalk Cloth Placemats

Published November 3

I gave these to my nieces for Thanksgiving and they had fun coloring while we were getting dinner ready. But as an added bonus, they also entertained my son (15 years old) on the drive over to Phoenix in the car – though his drawings generally included more explosions and fire than my nieces did. So they appeal to a wide age range in case you were curious. :)

#3 – Anthro Potentilla Bib Necklace

Published August 30

This was our most popular necklace (based on visits/traffic) during Anthro Necklace Week.
Looking at these has inspired me to set a 2011 Resolution to actually make some of the Anthro Necklace Week necklaces for myself. haha

#2 – Anthro Akela Necklace

Published August 8

This knockoff actually inspired Knockoff Week – I figured if you liked Anthro Necklaces as much as you liked this one – maybe a whole week of necklaces would be a good idea. Seems like it was. :)
And to give you a little teaser – there is another Anthro Necklace Week in the planning stages. No hints yet as to when – but I’ll let you know soon. :)

And . . . . .

#1 – Anthro Limitless Strands Necklace

Published November 7

Our most popular post of the year!! I do love this one – and have made just a few other versions as giveaways the last few months. :)
I finally saw the real thing in Anthro last week – and our knockoff isn’t too far off! Love that.

Thank you so much for all your visits and support and encouragement this year. Your comments and just the fact that you stop by, even if you never say a thing, mean so much to me and make this whole process so much fun.
Blogging has been such an adventure – when I started I figured I’d have an easy place to show my out of town family some of my crafting projects. I feel so blessed in how it’s all going.
And I’m so excited for next year!

Coming up in the next few days I want to share some gifts I made that I couldn’t show you before Christmas! And if you made any gifts using FT tutorials – I’d love to see pictures!!!

What was your favorite thing YOU made this year???

Twenty Years Ago Today

Twenty years ago today this boy . . .

made vows to this girl, and she to him . . .

to spend the rest of their lives together.

They have been blessed with two wonderful children since then.

And through twenty years, three moves, jobless periods,  lots of pets, one miscarriage, countless blessings, and it bears repeating – two amazingly wonderful children -

those two people (and yes, they were kids when they got married :) are still so much in love.

Honey, I couldn’t have picked a better man to grow up with, to have children with, and to share my life with.
I love you.

Happy Anniversary babe!! I am so excited to see what the next twenty years holds for us. :)

Merry Christmas!!

I don’t know about you but it felt like this year we RACED towards Christmas. :) And it’s finally here!!!

I had hoped to be able to share some of my decorations with you in this post, but it has rained nonstop for a week here. So between the last minute gifts, baking, cloud cover, and building our new ark, I don’t have any pictures for you. You’ll just have to take my word for it that my mantel looks Awesome!! ;)

I do have a couple pictures that did (sort of) turn out, and it is fitting that they are of my most treasured Christmas decoration.

For years this nativity had a place of honor on my Grandparent’s buffet table.
When Papa passed away, my grandmother had to move to a smaller house, and so this little nativity came to me. I love it because it reminds me of them, and the reason we celebrate.

Though I often wonder about Joseph.

Does he seem a little crabby to you with his arms crossed like that?
I always tell myself he’s contemplating the enormity of the task before him in raising the Saviour of the world -
and not that he’s in a snit because they have company coming and the stable’s a mess and he’s going to miss the big Bethlehem/Nazareth ball game later that day.

In all seriousness though, I pray that you all have a wonderful Christmas,
You are able to spend time with your family and/or friends,
You have time to laugh and play and be a kid,
And that you are able to have some quiet time to reflect on everything that is wonderful and humbling about the fact that Jesus came to us as a fragile, helpless child to save the world.

*********************************************

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.  An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.  But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.  This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

”Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Luke 2: 8-14
